Cops: East Marion man with car stuck gets DWI

An East Marion man was arrested for driving drunk after police found him stuck in the sand at Town Beach in Southold Friday night, according to Southold Town Police.

An officer patrolling the area around 11:45 p.m. found Ward Baker, 59, trying to remove his car from the beach, according to a police report. The vehicle’s tires were spinning and the engine was smoking, the report stated.

The officer went to check on it and found Mr. Baker to be driving it while intoxicated, police said.

He was arrested and transported to headquarters, where he was processed and held for arraignment.
