John J. Grenham

John J. Grenham died March 31 at his Southold home. The former resident of West Hempstead and Garden City was 85. 

Mr. Grenham was born May 28, 1928, in Brooklyn to Joseph and Helen Grenham. After serving in the U.S. Navy, he was employed by the New York City Police Department and was head of security at Fidelity (formerly known as Astoria Federal).

He was a member of many organizations, including the Long Island Fraud and Forgery Association, Loyal Order of Moose, Southold Project in Aquaculture Training (SPAT), Knights of Columbus Marian Council, American Legion Southold Post 803 and the North Fork Italian American Club.

Family members said Mr. Grenham enjoyed fishing, reading, gardening and dancing. He also loved spending time with his family.

Mr. Grenham was predeceased by his first wife, Eileen, in 1993 and is survived by his current wife, Betty, whom he married in 2000 in Garden City. He was also survived by his children, Brenda Eisenbraun of Port Jefferson, Jay, of Merrick, and Debbie Boylan of Massapequa; his sister, Florence Schroko of North Carolina; and three grandchildren.

The family will receive visitors Thursday, April 3, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Coster-Heppner Funeral Home in Cutchogue. A funeral service will take place Friday, April 4, at 11 a.m. at St. Patrick R.C. Church in Southold. Interment will take place at Holy Rood Cemetery in Westbury.
