Police: Southold man held in jail after second DWI arrest

A Southold man who had previously been charged with driving high while children were in his car earlier this year is being held in county jail after he allegedly crashed a car in Southold while drunk, authorities said.

Police received a tip about a car crash on Main Road about 8:30 p.m. Friday, according to a Southold Town police report.

Cops arrived on the scene and interviewed the driver, 23-year-old Jacob Riehl. He failed “several sobriety tests” at the scene of the crash and was arrested for DWI, according to the report.

Mr. Riehl was taken to police headquarters and held for arraignment.

Mr. Riehl was also arrested in January by Southampton Town police after he was found allegedly driving high on marijuana with a 15-year-old in the car. He was charged with felony DWI under Leandra’s Law and was due back in Southampton Town court on Wednesday to answer to those charges, court officials said.

He is being held in Suffolk County jail on $3,000 cash bail or $6,000 bond, a clerk said.
