The Southold Town Board is looking into installing security cameras at Town Hall.

During Tuesday morning’s work session, members discussed a plan recommended by the town’s executive safety committee. It calls for placement of about a dozen security cameras to monitor the Town Hall building’s main corridors, where the town’s clerks office, assessors office and tax receiver’s office are located.

Those areas get the majority of public foot traffic and are where cash transactions happen, according to town officials.

The town’s information technology department is now researching the cost of the cameras.

Town officials said the camera proposal is unrelated to the recent district attorney investigation into the theft of money from the town Justice Court.
