Southold Town seeking residents to serve on various committees

Town of Southold is accepting resumes for several town committees and commissions.

The information below was supplied directly from the town:

• The Anti-Bias Task Force has five spots open for a three-year term position. The committee meets monthly to discuss and promote diversity, unity, and understanding within Southold Town. It is their mission to organize educational and group activities as well as legal and legislative efforts to eliminate all forms of bias and prejudice.

• The Economic Development Committee has nine seats open. The volunteer committee is charged with promoting economic vitality through implementing the goals and objectives as outlined in the draft economic chapter of the town’s developing comprehensive plan.

• The Historic Preservation Commission has one seat open for a four-year term. The mission of the board is to afford proper recognition to the town’s historic landmarks and to protect them from incompatible alterations or demolition.

• The Land Preservation Committee has three seats open for two-year term. The committee works closely with the Land Preservation Department to make recommendations to the Town Board on all aspects of farmland protection and open space preservation.  Members will also review and provide guidance on proposed acquisitions of interests in real property using moneys from the Community Preservation Fund.

• The Police Advisory Committee has two, three-year terms available. The board was formed in 2002 and charged with analyzing police data, staffing and equipment needs, and budgets. Members are also expected to report to the supervisor and Town Board at least once every four weeks on its findings.

• The Youth Bureau is looking for several members for a two-year term. The role is to help promote and enhance the physical, mental and social well being of youth in the Town of Southold. Through collaboration and partnerships with youth, parents, schools, libraries, faith-based institutions and agencies that serve youth, the Youth Bureau fosters proactive planning and coordination of services and programs to address the many needs of youth and their families.

All these positions are voluntary and unsalaried.
