Cops: Burglar ran from Southold home, hid in crawlspace

A Southold man has been charged with felony burglary after he was caught searching through a woman’s furniture, ran from the house and was later caught by police hiding in the crawlspace of his home, according to a Southold Town police statement.

Police said a resident returned to her home on North Bayview Road about 9 a.m. and found 20-year-old Vincent Occhiogrosso going through a bureau in the house. She confronted the man, who ran out of the house and “took off in a grey truck,” according to the statement.

Cops found the truck parked at Mr. Occhiogrosso’s home and found him hiding in the crawlspace. He was arrested and held for arraignment.

Mr. Occhiogrosso had been previously charged with misdemeanor driving while under the influence of drugs when police allegedly caught him driving while high on marijuana last October.
