James Myron Young

J. Myron Young of Laurel died April 6, 2014 after a brief illness. He was 82.

Myron was the son of Marian (Gildersleeve) Young and Cecil T. Young of Laurel. He graduated from Mattituck High School in 1949 and worked at several businesses prior to retiring, the latest being Mattituck Air Base. 

Family members said he loved sailing, rowing; and discussing automobiles, aircraft and boats. Myron was a member of Marratooka Club, Custer Institute in Southold and a member and instructor with Peconic Bay Power Squadron for 46 years. Myron had several boating articles published in “Messing About in Boats” and was active in the Mystic Seaport Museum in Mystic, Conn. as well as the Long Island Maritime Museum in Sayville.

He was the beloved husband of Joan (née Baumann) for 49 years. Myron also leaves a brother, Roger H. Young (June) of Hayes, Va.; and a sister, Susan Y. Pauley of Stow, Mass., as well as many cousins and nieces and nephews of Harold (Helen), George (Kathy), the late William (Mary Pat) and Edmond (Carol) Baumann.

Funeral arrangements were handled by DeFriest-Grattan Funeral Home. Interment took place April 11, 2014, at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Cutchogue.
