If you live or work in Greenport, we’ll see you at 12:30 p.m. in Mitchell Park.

The Suffolk Times is attempting to gather as many Porters as possible for a “people of Greenport” photo that will appear on the cover of the April 17 issue, which has been dubbed The Greenport Issue.

The special edition and public photo shoot are the community’s prize for winning northforker.com’s Game of Hamlets, a month-long online bracket tournament to determine which North Fork hamlet is everyone’s favorite.

Greenport entered the contest as a heavy favorite. When the polls closed Tuesday, it exited a champion.

“We had identified Greenport early on as a potential favorite,” said Suffolk Times editor Michael White. “Not only is it a destination for a lot of people on the North Fork, but it’s also well known across Long Island, and northforker.com draws readers from the entire region.”

Greenport defeated underdog Orient with 57 percent of the vote in the final round of the competition. Previous wins for Greenport came against East Marion, New Suffolk and Mattituck.

Orient gained momentum in the Final Four when it defeated Riverhead, but couldn’t overmatch its neighbor in the finals.

“I really thought Orient may be an underdog winner. It is such a special place and the townspeople have a lot of pride,” said Times/Review director of sales and marketing Sonja Reinholt Derr. “Yet, I live in Greenport and, in my humble opinion, we rock!”

Members of the community should meet near the stage at Mitchell Park promptly at 12:30 p.m. Sunday. The shoot is expected to last about 30 minutes.
