Allen H. Rackett

Allen H. Rackett of East Marion died April 14, 2014 at Peconic Bay Medical Center in Riverhead after a lengthy illness. He was 68. 

Allen was born in Greenport May 7, 1945, and was the son of Charles C. and Adele E. Rackett of East Marion. Allen attended East Marion secondary school before attending Greenport High School where he graduated in 1963. He then attended Cornell University, School of Hotel Management.

Following graduation Allen continued a very successful career in hotel and restaurant management, including the Philadelphia Convention and Tourism Bureau; Pusser’s Caribbean Grille at the Beach, Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; Pusser’s Caribbean Grille at the Annapolis Marriott; and in Brooklyn. He then returned to his roots on Long Island to work at the Elbow Room in Jamesport, and later the  IGA in Southold.

Allen is predeceased by his parents and survived by his brother, Peter J. Rackett of Medford; his sister, Rebecca J. Becker of Calverton; three nephews, William Becker of Margate, Fla. and Devin Becker and Erik Becker, both of Brooklyn.

Memorial donations may be made to St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Greenport. Arrangements for private cremation was handled by Coster-Heppner Funeral Home in Cutchogue. Interment will be in the East Marion Cemetery.

The family will hold a memorial service at a future date.
