ROYALS 112, CLIPPERS 18

Mike Insogna sprinted to second-place finishes in both the 100 and 200 meters for Greenport/Southold’s boys track and field team, which saw two of its high jumpers set personal records on Thursday.

Insogna, a freshman, clocked a time of 12.3 seconds in the 100, finishing ahead of third-place teammate Billy McAllister (12.7), during his team’s 112-18 loss in a Suffolk County League VIII dual meet at Port Jefferson High School. Shortly after that, Insogna was timed in 25.4 in the 200; Chris Sponza, Greenport/Southold’s only senior, was third in 25.6.

Meanwhile, Greenport/Southold high jumpers Ben Bracken and Byron Rivas, both newcomers to the event, jumped higher than they ever did before. Bracken, a freshman, cleared 5 feet 4 inches, good enough for second place. Rivas, a sophomore competing in the high jump for only the second time, was third at 5-2.

Third-place finishes were also turned in for the Clippers by Jon Rempe (5:11 in the 1,600), Rivas (56.8 in the 400), Owen Klipstein (10:59.6 in the 3,200) and Nick Wallace (87-6 in the discus).

It was the second dual meet in as many days for the Clippers (0-3), who were coming off a loss to Hampton Bays. Port Jefferson improved to 2-1.
