Spring is here! (Credit: Jennifer Gustavson)

Spring has finally arrived. I know this because the annual blossoming of the bulbs — daffodils, jonquils and crocus — in my neighbor Ann Stanilaus’ yard has begun. It’s an event I look forward to yearly.

A bridal shower was held for Kelly Sage April 6 at the Townsend Manor Inn. Sixty relatives and friends attended to shower Kelly with beautiful gifts. Kelly, daughter of Karen and Mike Sage, will marry Joseph Sawicki III in June.

The Greenport carousel committee will hold a Mother’s Day craft event for kids in grades K through 6 on Saturday, May 10, from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Little Red Schoolhouse on Front Street. The event includes a carousel ride, photo op, decorating a wooden picture frame and a snack. The cost is $10 per child. Advance registration is required, as space limits participation to 20 children. Call the marina office at 477-2200 for information and registration.

The East Marion Fire Department Auxiliary celebrates its silver anniversary this year. And it will hold their 25th annual chinese auction on Saturday, April 26, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the East Marion firehouse. There will be tables of prizes as well as a white elephant table and refreshments.

Greenport PTA members will host a Zumba fundraiser at the school Thursday, April 24, from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. Admission is $10 per person; proceeds will help offset the cost of the elementary yearbook.

The PTA will also host a Mother’s Day craft fair on Sunday, May 4, rain or come shine. It will run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Birthday wishes are sent out to Charlie Manwaring, Thomas Maravas, Lisa Israel, AnnMarie Torres and Christine Aviles on April 17; my nieces Caitlyn Tooker and Justine Lay on the 18th; Pat Barszczewski, Bill Rhinow and Michael Murphy on the 19th; Mary Saetta on the 20th; Josh Finno, Sean Heaney, Daniel Holmes Jr. and Tiffany Zurek on the 22nd; Christine Gaffga Dinizio, Richard Hulse III, and Barbara Davidson on the 23rd; Dedrick Hutley, Amy Pacholk, Bob Wiltse and Linda Wallace on the 24th; Megan Kruszeski, Dave Brandi, Pat Kohl, the Macomber boys — John III and John IV — Estefany Molina and John Foster on the 25th; Denise Karavas, Kristen Welch and Trudi Ford on the 26th; Shannon Land and Gary Lillis on the 27th; Gary Charters, Brandon Padworski, Jim McAllister and Erin Young on the 29th; and Claude Kumjian, John Horton and Jennifer Costello on the 30th.

Celebrating another return of the day they said “I do” are Nancy and Jim McAllister, married 56 years on April 19; Erin and Chris Doucett, marking anniversary No. 12 on the 20th; and my nephew Marcus Tooker and his wife, Jaclyn, whose third wedding anniversary is April 30.
