Peconic Bay Medical receives stroke center certification
Peconic Bay Medical Center is now the only hospital on the East End — and one of just four in Suffolk County — to receive a prestigious advanced certification for its treatment of stroke victims, hospital officials said.
The Riverhead hospital recently received the Primary Stroke Center Certification from the Joint Commission, and its partners, the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association. The achievement signifies an organization’s dedication to fostering better outcomes for patients, according to the Joint Commission.
In February, PBMC underwent a rigorous on-site review by a commission expert to analyze the hospital’s compliance with certification requirements.
“In achieving Joint Commission advanced certification, Peconic Bay Medical Center has demonstrated its commitment to the highest level of care for its stroke patients,” said Jean Range of the Joint Commission. “The Joint Commission commends Peconic Bay Medical Center for successfully undertaking this challenge to elevate its standard of care and instill confidence in the community it serves.”
Elsewhere in Suffolk County, St. Charles, St. Catherine of Siena Medical Center and Stony Brook University Medical Center have also received the distinction.
