Joseph Prokop is staying on as Greenport Village’s attorney.

The village board renewed Mr. Prokop’s contract to provide legal advice at the same rate of his previous agreement: $175 an hour, as needed.

The new contract expires on April 2, 2015.

This is Mr. Prokop 11th year working for Greenport Village.

Mr. Prokop, of the legal firm Joseph W Prokop PLLC in Islip, is the recent recipient of The Suffolk County Village Officials Association’s first-ever Partner Award for his commitment to fostering communications between Greenport and other villages. The group, established more than 60 years ago, serves as public policy advocate for the county’s villages.

“I don’t think they could have chosen a more appropriate person for the award,” said Mayor David Nyce, who attended the award ceremony with several other village employees.

In addition to Mr. Prokop’s hourly fee, this year’s budget also appropriates $20,000 for Mr. Prokop’s firm to hire a legal aid that would work “a few days per week” to help with litigation work.
