SECTION XI INDIVIDUAL CHAMPIONSHIPS/STATE QUALIFIER

Bishop McGann-Mercy sophomore Meg Tuthill took second place in the 800 meters in the Section XI girls track and field individual championships/state qualifier on Friday at Port Jefferson High School. Her time was 2 minutes 15.71 seconds. She finished behind Elwood/John Glenn senior Sarah Hardie, who won in 2:11.21.

Mercy’s 4 x 100 relay team posted the ninth fastest time in the preliminaries in 50.91. While it wasn’t enough to advance into the finals Saturday, it was the top time among Division II schools. Mercy beat out Southampton and Wyandanch to earn a trip upstate.

The relay team featured senior Danisha Carter, juniors Delaney Macchirole, Adafih Blackburn and sophomore Julianna Cintron.

In the discus, Riverhead senior Maddie Blom finished eighth with a throw of 101 feet.
