Claire Anne Manning

Claire  Anne Manning of New Suffolk died May 9 at home, surrounded by her children. She was 88. 

She was born in Brooklyn, Nov. 27, 1925, to Katherine “Kitty” Dowd and Arthur Sorenson. Claire graduated from St. Brendan’s High School in Flatbush and received her degree in fine arts from Fashion Institute of Technology.

Claire married John “Jack” Manning June 23, 1950. They moved to New Suffolk in 1967 where they spent many weekends and summers until finally retiring there full-time in 2001.

Family members said she enjoyed painting and lived a rich and long life as a wife, mother, grandmother and artist.

Claire was predeceased by her husband in 2009 and her daughter Allison in 2004. She is survived by her children Stephen Manning, Philip Manning and his wife Carolyn (née Di Giaro), Marita Manning-Franzman and husband Kerry Franzman, Christopher Manning and wife Kathleen (née Faust), Claire Manning-Kranes and husband Peter Kranes and Paul Manning and his wife Sarah Edwards. She is also survived by her grandchildren Erin, Christine, Margaret, Lauren, Rachel, Grace, Virginia and Jack and her great-grandchildren Helen and Quincy.

Arrangements were entrusted to DeFriest-Grattan Funeral Home in Mattituck. A funeral mass will be announced at a later date.
