Greenport News: One very busy eight grader in Greenport

Greenport BOE meeting cancelled, Feb. 13, 2013

Eighth-grader Blayr Corazzini has been a very busy young lady lately. While the rest of us were enjoying Memorial Day weekend, she was collecting trophies at the New York State baton twirling championships, where she placed first in every individual category in which she competed.

R031209_Dinizio_R.jpgIn addition, her novice junior parade corps and open senior parade corps also took first place and her junior dance twirl team placed second. I’d say that she’s following in the footsteps of older sister, Payge, but it looks like Blayr is making her own set of footprints.

Way to go!

CAST will hold a food drive Saturday, June 7, at the four local supermarkets. Hours at the Greenport IGA are 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The food pantry is a valuable resource that helps struggling families stretch their monthly food budget. If you can volunteer to help with the drive, contact CAST director Sarah Benjamin at 477-1717.

Speaking of CAST, certified technicians and members of the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Offi ce will be on hand Friday, June 13, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., to provide free car seat inspections and ensure that your children travel safely. To make an appointment, which is required, call 648-7100, ext. 219, or call CAST for more information.

A farewell reception for Father Tom Murray will be held Sunday, June 8, from 4 to 6 p.m. at Brecknock Hall. The farewell event is open to the public so feel free to bring friends, family and colleagues.
