Health Beat: Blood drive May 15 at ELIH

Peconic Bay Medical Center in Riverhead will host an epilepsy support group Monday, May 12, from 7 to 8 p.m. in conference room A on the second floor. The group provides encouragement, acceptance, comfort and empowerment. Patients, friends and family are all welcome. • Eastern Long Island Hospital in Greenport will host a spring community blood drive Thursday, May 15, from 8 a.m. to 5:15 p.m. in the hospital conference room. Walk-ins are welcome, but appointments can be scheduled by calling 477-5100.

• Peconic Landing in Greenport will host a free talk on ‘Medicare: The Basics Simplified’ by benefits professional Daniel Droblas at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 15, in the facility’s community center. Reserve a seat at peconiclanding.ticketleap,org.

• The employee of the month for May at Peconic Landing is Steve Lutzky, who has been with the environmental services department there since 2005. In a release, director of environmental services Darryl Volinski described Mr. Lutzky as kind, courteous and prompt — someone who “will never let his employer down.”

• The Riverhead Community Awareness Program will host a forum on ‘Prescription Drugs: What You Don’t Know Can Kill You’ Monday, May 12, at 7 p.m. in the Pulaski Street School auditorium. The event is sponsored by Riverhead Community Coalition for Safe and Drug-Free Youth. Drug Enforcement Agency agent Charles Bernard will discuss the drug abuse epidemic on Long Island and Dr. Alexis Hugelmeyer will share her family’s experience with the effects of prescription drug use.
