In an attempt to improve the passage of emergency vehicles, the Southold Town Board is proposing to erect “no standing” signs on Pike Street at the intersection of Love Lane in Mattituck.

The plan would not allow vehicles to idle or park on the north or south sides of Pike Street from the east curb of Love Lane, according to the public hearing notice on the matter.

The hope is to help keep traffic moving at the narrow, congested intersection as well as to public’s health, safety and welfare resulting from vehicle stopping and standing on that portion of Pike Street, according to the proposal.

A public hearing on the issue is scheduled for Tuesday, June 17 at 4:30 p.m. at the Town Hall meeting room.
