Cops: Drunk driver drove into opposite lane in Greenport

Southold Town police say a 37-year-old Peconic man was driving drunk on Route 48 in Greenport Monday afternoon when he crossed into oncoming traffic, forcing other drivers to swerve out of the way, according to a police statement. 

A responding officer saw a landscaping truck driven by Isai Gonzales drive over the double yellow line near the Soundview Restaurant about 1:45 p.m., police said. Cops stopped the truck and found that Mr. Gonzales was intoxicated, according to the statement.

He was arrested and charged with misdemeanor driving while intoxicated, police said.
