Greenport News: Congrats to three graduating classes
Another school year has officially come to an end and along with it the end of an era. Two of Greenport High School’s finest – Mike Connolly and Ron McEvoy – have opted to retire. Their influence extended far beyond the classroom and they will be missed immensely. I wish them retirements that bring as much joy and wonderful memories as they’ve brought to the students at GHS.
Congratulations to the three graduating classes at Greenport Schools. The kindergarten class graduated last Friday; the sixth-graders had their graduation/moving up ceremony on Tuesday; and commencement exercises for the Class of 2014 will be this Sunday, June 29, at 1 p.m. in the school’s auditorium.
Congratulations are also in order for David Krumenacker, Sean Walden and Connor Whittle, who will represent Greenport June 27-July 3 at Boys State at SUNY/Morrisville.
Catie Creedon’s family and friends sure are excited to have her home after her year as an exchange student in Sao Paolo, Brazil. During that time, the Creedons have been the host family for Ana Baisch Gracia, who will remain with them until July 24. I’m sure Catie and Ana will be comparing adventures in each other’s country. Ana has definitely been an asset to the Greenport student body.
San Simeon by the Sound Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation presents “An Evening under African Skies” Saturday, July 19, 4 to 8 p.m. at the Corso residence on Oregon Road in Cutchogue. Live music will be provided by Bukhithi Kumalo, bassist for Paul Simon, and a buffet will be served that includes lobster, lamb chops, a raw bar and more. There will also be an auction with prizes, including trips to South Africa and Ireland and a ski package. The Village of Greenport will host a free skate park festival for all ages, with music, food and fun, from noon to 6 p.m. Saturday, July 27. The Moore’s Lane skate park will be resurfaced and upgraded this summer.
Lori Petroski, daughter of Kathy and Jude Petroski of Riverhead, received many beautiful gifts at a bridal shower in her honor June 21. Lori will become the bride of Jeff Dinizio (yes, he’s our son) on Sept. 27. To say I’m excited about their upcoming nuptials is an understatement.

The happiest of anniversaries to my brother-in-law and his wife, Mike and Chris Dinizio, for their 27th on June 27; Kay and Tom Welch, celebrating their 30th on the 30th; Pat and Jerry Urban, married 45 years on July 5; and my sister-in-law and her husband, Teresa and Kip O’Connell, whose 30th anniversary is July 7.
