Congratulations to Mattituck High School’s graduating class of 2014!
The next school year marks the start of a new century of education at MHS, but with that comes an ending, as Superintendent James McKenna will retire after 25 years of serving our district. He’s spent his life as an educator and administrator and has traversed the educational system with ease, teaching as an elementary and high school teacher and serving as a principal and superintendent. Present and past PTA/PTSA members gathered at Macari Vineyards to honor him for guiding so many children through their school years. Among them were Suzanne and Toni Martinez, Barbara Koch, Ann Smith, Shawn Petretti, Karen Ross, Amy Folk, Mary Grace Finora, Anne Boucher, Sue and John Stype, Pat Arslanian, the Burkes, and more. The fact that he could tell me something unique about each of my sons demonstrated one of the reasons he’s been so successful. All the best and God bless you and whatever you do!
‘May the FOURTH be with you’ was the theme of the May 4 wedding of Rose Auebach and John Tash. It was a beautiful day with a gentle breeze and rays of sunlight. Guests gazed with awe upon the bride and groom as they stood under the chuppah overlooking the Manhattan skyline. Rose is a neural monitoring technician who travels from operating room to operating room at hospitals in the tri-state area. The couple hopes to spend some time visiting her mom, Marjorie, on Nassau Point, this summer. Mazel Tov!
Congratulations to Aidan Fogarty, who graduated from The Citadel as a surface warfare officer in the Navy. Not too far from home, Aidan is stationed in Virginia. Sister Alana is doing well and living in Connecticut, where she is a prosecuting attorney. Needless to say their mother, Mimi, is very proud!
The photos of the USAT Nationals XTERRA East Champs make one think, “Wow! These folks are in incredible condition!” Congratulations to Ken Robbins on his third-place win in the 50-54 division!
The Southold Mothers’ Club will hold its annual yard sale this Saturday, June 28, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the corner of Elijah’s Lane and Tabor Road in Mattituck. Support them and help them support local mothers and families.
The hashtag on Joanne Goerler’s picture of her and husband, Ron, at Jamesport Vineyard says it all: #blessed. From Ron’s birthday, to date nights, to the fact that daughter Anna is one of three members of Johnson & Wales’ winning soccer team to achieve a 4.0 GPA, this couple is smiling!
Mary Grace Finora heard from her husband, Joe, that the family arrived in Bermuda safely and saw some dolphins and sharks along the way. Joey and James were joined by friends who will accompany them on the sail home. “Ahh … to be young and free again.”
Dr. Richard Cappello and his wife, Karen, established themselves in the community, raised their family here and kept their ties to the North Fork after moving to New Hampshire. So it was no surprise that Maureen and Rich Smith, Janine Harrigan, Vicky and Matthew Cortese, Harry Precht, Luigi and Virginia Buono, Joanne and Al Young and Minosh and Alexus Breest were among the guests present at their daughter Sarah’s “Scottish wedding” to Steven Hepburn — with groom and wedding party wearing kilts and all! The family flew to Scotland for Sarah’s graduation from veterinary school. She will return to the States and practice as an emergency vet in N.H. Steven won’t join her for another year or so, putting numerous transatlantic flights in this couple’s future. Brother Matthew got a job as a flight medic in Atlanta – a dream come true! — and sister Rachel is a dean’s-listed sophomore at Siena.
Heartfelt condolences to the Graeb family on the passing of Laurie Graeb Lechner.
