Achievements: Local graduates excelling in college

Daniel Catapano of Southold has been named to the spring dean’s list at SUNY/Potsdam, where he is a history major.

Dominika Kupiszewska of Mattituck, a junior majoring in criminology, has made the spring dean’s list at Hofstra University in Hempstead. 

Cadets Aidan Fogarty of New Suffolk and Matthew Ireland of Laurel have received dean’s list recognition for the spring semester at The Citadel in Charleston, S.C. Cadet Ireland was also named to the spring Gold Stars list in recognition of his academic achievement.

Katherine Golde, Mirin Greenberger and Katherine Wilcenski, all of Cutchogue, have been named to the spring semester dean’s list at the University of Vermont in Burlington.

Katelyn Hayes of Cutchogue and Mark Smith of Southold have made the spring dean’s list at Farmingdale (N.Y.) State College.

Gayle Gammon of Southold and Kellie Hennessey of Cutchogue have made the spring dean’s list at SUNY/New Paltz. Ms. Hennessey is majoring in early childhood and child education B-6; Ms. Gammon’s major is undeclared.

Ryan Finger, son of Paul and Jeanne Finger of Cutchogue, has been named to the spring president’s list at Elon University in North Carolina.

Katherine Bertschi, a 2012 graduate of Southold High School, has made the spring dean’s list at Loyola University in New Orleans, La. She will spend the first half of next year, starting in late July, studying in Australia at the University of Canberra.

Marvin Rodriguez of Greenport, a junior studying computer science and mathematics at SUNY/Oneonta, is one of 13 students from the SUNY system selected to take part in the first SUNY Brain Summer Scholars Program, part of the SUNY Brain Network of Excellence. Participating students will perform hands-on research to support the work of SUNY Brain faculty.

Stephen Conlin III of Cutchogue has earned the rank of lieutenant junior grade in the U.S. Navy. He is an aviation maintenance duty officer with Strike Fighter Squadron 146 (VFA-146) “Blue Diamonds,” Naval Air Station Lemoore, Calif. He recently completed an eight-month deployment with the “Blue Diamonds” as part of Carrier Air Wing 11 aboard the USS NIMITZ (CVN-68) in WESTPAC 2013 – “Operation Enduring Freedom.” He graduated from Mattituck High School in 2008 and Worcester (Mass. Polytechnic Institute) in 2012.

Sarah Conlin of Cutchogue has been commissioned ensign in the U.S. Navy and will report in November to Pensacola, Fla., where she will attend Naval Aviation Flight School to train as a naval pilot. She graduated with “high distinction” from Worcester (Mass.) Polytechnic Institute with a Bachelor of Science in American studies.
