Kathleen Regina O’Brien Beckwith

Kathleen Regina O’Brien Beckwith died Jan. 28 after a long illness, hastened by an accidental fall that was more than she could recover from. She was 59.

Kathie, as she was affectionately known, was born May 4, 1955, on Long Island to William Joseph O’Brien and Anne Justina Selts O’Brien. She was one of six children and graduated from Greenport High School in 1973.

In 1983 she moved to San Diego, Calif., which she grew to love almost as much as she loved her sweetheart, David Elwood Beckwith, whom she married Oct. 9, 1983.

Kathie was an artist whose interests included painting, scrimshaw, painting porcelain doll faces, creating stained-glass works and modeling. She loved many types of music and played guitar and flute.

She loved her friends, her family and her pets, and also had a special love for the beach and ocean. Kathie kept her special friendships alive across the miles with her best girl friends on the East End. All of her friends will miss her unconditional love and listening.

Kathie is survived by her husband, David Beckwith; her sister, Anna O’Brien; her brother, William O’Brien; her sister, Helen Sarah O’Brien Bard; and brothers Michael and Charles O’Brien, as well as a her niece, nephews and grandniece.

Interment will take place Sunday, June 28, at 2 p.m. at Shelter Island Cemetery. A Celebration of Life will follow at St. Mary’s Church hall, where family and friends may share stories. Light refreshments will be served.

This is a paid notice.
