Bridgehampton National Bank celebrates opening of new Mattituck location
With hot dogs, ice cream and two supersized pairs of scissors, Bridgehampton National Bank employees celebrated the grand reopening with a ribbon cutting at its new Main Road location Thursday.
After 20 years in the Mattituck Plaza, the branch and its employees moved across Main Road to the brick building vacated in February by Suffolk County National Bank.
“To say this building is perfect is an understatement,” said branch manager Debbie Orlowski. “We we’re hoping for a space to be more visible. So far we’ve received a great response from customers.”
Ms. Orlowski said Bridgehampton National Bank has grown exponentially in the four years that she has been working at the branch — from handling $18 million to $55 million.
“We have been growing tremendously on the North Fork, especially in Mattituck,” said Bridgehampton National Bank president and CEO Kevin O’Connor. “Big banks serve a role, but in a community like this it is easier to go to a local bank where it is all about personal relationships.
“It is symbolic on this weekend when we celebrate America’s independence we open a local business in a small town.”
The company began leasing the new Mattituck space in March and has since undergone major interior renovations, Ms. Orlowski said. The iconic time and temperature sign outside the bank, however, is one thing about the building that won’t change.
“It was important to the community that it stayed,” Ms. Orlowski said. “They were vocal about it.”
Customers, CEOs and elected officials attended Thursday’s celebration, which featured free food.
“The last thing we need is another empty building,” Southold Supervisor Scott Russell said before helping cut the ribbon.
The branch’s previous Mattituck Plaza location is now available for lease, Mr. O’Connor said.
