Cops: Man convicted of assaulting child broke parole

A man convicted in 2008 of assaulting a child was caught in Southold early Friday after violating parole, according to a town police statement.

Adrian Gomez, 34, of Southold was arrested about 5:30 a.m. by Southold Town cops and state parole officers after he broke parole, according to the statement. Police did not say how Mr. Gomez violated parole.

Mr. Gomez had been convicted of felony reckless assault of a child, which is defined as causing serious injury to a child by “shaking the child, or by slamming or throwing the child so as to impact the child’s head on a hard surface or object,” according to state penal code.

Mr. Gomez served nearly three years at the Elmira Correctional Facility before being released on parole in 2012, according to online records. His parole is set to expire in March 2015.

Mr. Gomez is now being held at the Suffolk County jail in Riverside, according to the release.
