Health Department announces beach closure at Great Pond

The Suffolk County Department of Health Services issued a warning Thursday of high bacteria levels at Great Pond in Peconic.

The beach at Peconic Dunes County Park is currently closed to swimming, the health department said.

The freshwater pond has been subject to closure in the past for high bacteria levels, according to previous reports. The pond, located near Long Island Sound, typically isn’t used for swimming, according to previous reports.
