In a world torn by pain and sorrow, we are blessed to be surrounded by so much natural beauty and wholesomeness! One need not look far to see the bounty of the North Fork!

There are a plethora of local opportunities to demonstrate thankfulness and give back. A recent one was the Mighty North Fork Triathlon, which brought together participants interested in both good health and raising money to care for others. The event raised $10,000 for CAST.

Momentum is a good thing — especially when you’re raising money for four good causes! With that, the North Fork Designer Show House has extended its run to include this weekend, Aug. 22-24. Enjoy the expertise of the 16 local decorators who spent hours and hours working to beautify the historic Cutchogue Presbyterian Church manse. This is a time of excitement — and maybe apprehension — for young men and woman entering their freshman year of college. And sending children off to school can be a bittersweet experience for parents. May you make the most of the experience and grow!

The upcoming Labor Day holiday means I will have an early deadline for my next column. Please send me your good news and events for the Sept. 4 issue no later than Thursday, Aug. 28.
