UPDATE: Power still out in parts of Greenport

UPDATE: Portions of Greenport are still without power as crews work to fix a village-wide outage caused by a problem at the electric plant Thursday morning.

While power has been returned to the majority of the village sections of Front, Fourth, Fifth and Sixth Streets are still without electricity, clerk Sylvia Pirillo said.

ORIGINAL STORY: Greenport officials are hoping to restore power to village residents and businesses by noon after a problem at the electric plant caused a village wide outage on Thursday morning, clerk Sylvia Pirillo said.

The power went out around 8 a.m. Thursday morning, she said. Crews are now working to return electricity and hope to have service fully operational by lunchtime.

“It is coming back slowly,” Ms. Pirillo said.

In the meantime, villagers are being asked to turn off any unnecessary appliances.
