The damaged bulkhead at the town’s Norman Klipp Park in Greenport will soon be replaced, Southold Town officials said Tuesday.

The Town Board approved a $129,600 bid from Crowley Marine Contracting for the project, which calls for the replacement and reconstruction of 124 feet of bulkhead on the beach side of the inlet at the park, also known as Gull Pond Beach and located at the end of Manhanset Road.

The town is now looking to transfer about $13,000 to cover the total cost of the bid after previously setting aside $116,000 from its parks and playgrounds budget for the project.

“It’s a jewel of a park,” said Councilman Bill Ruland, who as deputy supervisor chaired the Tuesday’s Town Board work session in supervisor Scott Rusell’s absence. “I agree this has to be repaired.”

Town engineer Jamie Richter said Mr. Russell has also told him it’s a project that has “got to get done” at the park, which he said has one of the better boat ramps on the bay.

Town officials said the additional funding could come from money previously set aside for work at Goldsmith Inlet, but more specific details about the transfer still needed to be worked out with the supervisor.
