Southold IGA shoppers will be getting a little something extra with their groceries starting Friday.

Customers who spend more than $20 will receive a free reusable bag. Those who spend more than $40 will receive a free insulated reusable bag.

IGA owner Charles Reichert came up with the promotion following a recent plastic bag forum hosted by Southold Town, where the majority of attendees spoke in favor of banning plastic bags in retail stores.

The ban is part of a regional effort being led by the East End Supervisors and Mayors Association, which is calling on all five eastern Suffolk towns to ban plastic bags in retail stores.

The bags are available until supplies last.
