A candlelight vigil in memory of Kaitlyn Doorhy has been planned for tonight in front of Mattituck High School.

Anyone who wants to celebrate Kaitlyn’s life is invited, friends said. Everyone is being asked to meet near the flagpole in the front of the school between 7:45 and 8 p.m. Candles and sky lanterns will be lit around 8:30 p.m., they said.

“We will have a box there and everyone can write a letter to Kaitlyn,” friend Molly Waitz said in an email. “A happy memory, a story, whatever you would like. We will lock the box and give it to her parents.”

The key will then be buried with Ms. Doorhy, Ms. Waitz said. The box will also be on display at Thursday’s memorial services.

Services for Ms. Doorhy, who is survived by her parents, Joseph and Darla, and her sister Carly, will be held in Mattituck, according to her obituary. Visitors are invited to attend services Thursday, Aug. 28 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the DeFriest-Grattan Funeral Home on Main Road in Mattituck. A funeral mass will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Good Counsel R.C. Church.  Interment will follow at Sacred Heart R.C. Cemetery in Cutchogue.

Memorial donations to Kappa Delta Sorority at Sacred Heart University would be appreciated, according to the funeral home, which is providing donation envelopes.
