Cops: Man in speedo shoved police at Orient ferry terminal

Southold Town police say a 56-year-old Islip man tried to abandon a U-Haul van at the Orient Ferry terminal and later shoved police who tried to arrest him.

According to a police statement, Roger Jan Makowski was seen walking around the Cross Sound Ferry terminal on Route 25 in an orange shirt and a blue speedo asking for a screwdriver to take a license plate off a U-haul van. Police said the man was trying to leave the van behind at the terminal.

Police said Makowski “became enraged” as they investigated and he shoved one of the officers. He was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct and harrassment and taken back to police headquarters.
