Valerie Jean Bufkins

Valerie Jean Bufkins of Mattituck died Sept. 18 at her home. She was 70.

She was born April 27, 1944, in Louisville, Ky., to Myrtice Morgan and married Gary Bufkins Feb. 8, 1962 in Kentucky.

Family members said Ms. Bufkins was a homemaker and an active, founding member of Community Christian Fellowship.

She was predeceased by her husband, Gary, in March 2014 and is survived by her children, Douglas (Marlene) of Southold, John (Debra), also of Southold; Bill (Mary) of Saratoga Springs and Elizabeth (Luis) Avalos of Guatemala; her mother; her brothers Kevin Bryant of Georgia and Keith Bryant; and 13 grandchildren.

The family will receive visitors Sunday, Sept. 21, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Coster-Heppner Funeral Home in Cutchogue. A funeral service will be held Monday, Sept. 22, at 10 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment will take place at Calverton National Cemetery.
