Cutchogue News: Budget vote for Cutchogue New Suffolk Library upcoming

Some spend their summer days vacationing in the sun and having fun at the beach and on the water. Others enjoy hiking, biking, walking, running and each other’s company at barbecues and community events. Still others are working. Whatever they’re doing, this is the busiest time of the year for many on the North Fork.

Are you ready to make a difference in the world? Emily Gatz showed she is by completing the Girl Scouts’ highest achievement, the Gold Award. It challenges scouts to solve a community problem and have an impact for years to come. Emily’s project was building a shed for the North Fork Early Learning Center in Laurel. She identified the issue, investigated it thoroughly, created a plan, sought feedback, built a team and executed the project implement, which educated and inspired others. Congratulations on a job well done!

Don’t forget the budget vote at Cutchogue New Suffolk Library on Tuesday, Sept. 16, from 2 to 8 p.m.

Congratulations to Alex Burns on winning the North Fork Country Club’s junior golf championship!

Touched by an angel, Kaitlyn Doorhy was a beautiful person inside and out. Family, friends, acquaintances and community members gathered last Wednesday for a candlelight vigil at the flagpole outside Mattituck High School. Hundreds of lanterns floated up, causing those present to look up in awe! The pain that comes from losing a child is more than anyone should bear. Our heartfelt condolences, along with our thoughts and prayers, are sent out to the Doorhy family.

Hermann Hesse said, “I have always believed that whatever good or bad fortune may come our way we can always give it meaning and transform it into something of value.” The value that seemed to occur naturally to Carly Doorhy was a desire to donate her sister’s organs. That wish was embraced by her parents, Joe and Darla, who decided to remember their beloved daughter with celebration. Pink shirts were designed by Carly’s friend Sam Smilovich that say “Kaitlyn Doorhy will forever be in our hearts” on one side and “Keep Smiling Beautiful” on the other.

North Fork Reform Synagogue’s congregation welcomes student Rabbi Toba Strauss into their midst Friday, Sept. 5, and looks forward to a year full of education, communal prayer, celebration and fun! Each new student rabbi brings a new point of view that enriches our experience as we pray, celebrate, and study together.

The eighth annual North Fork Foodie Tour is this Sunday, Sept. 7, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Take the opportunity to visit local food producers and learn about products and ideas for a sustainable future. It’s fun for the whole family! For information, visit NorthForkReformSynagogue.com or call 722-5712.

Luis and Sharyn Serrano are bidding farewell to the North Fork after 20 years to embark on their next adventure in the Catskills. They are thankful to family and friends for their love and support. They look forward to returning for many visits over the next year. Farewell and all the best!

Grandpa and Grandma, aka John and Diane Graeb, “had a great time this summer” — and who wouldn’t when spending time with daughter and son-in-law Korinne and Kurt Panchura and grandchildren Emma, Chase and newborn baby girl Tyler. The family created beautiful memories while enjoying all the North Fork has to offer. From playing on the beach at Pequash, to fun in the sun aboard the boat, to watching the sunset over Osprey’s Dominion vineyard, to visiting Greenport for a carousel ride and sushi. Fun memories to be sure! Congratulations, John and Diane, on the birth of your third grandchild!
