Shirley W. Murphy

Shirley W. Murphy of Mattituck died suddenly at her home Sept. 18, 2014. She was 79. 

She was born in Brooklyn, Nov. 13, 1934, to Blanche (née Hiscock) and John Matthews.

On April 14, 1951, she married Thomas William Murphy in Park Slope, Brooklyn. For many years they made their home there before moving to Mattituck 38 years ago.

She had been a communicant of All Saints Church in Brooklyn and Episcopal Church of the Redeemer in Mattituck.

Predeceased by her husband Thomas William Murphy in 2008 and her son Kevin David Murphy in 2012; she is survived by a daughter, Jayne Ann Figueroa of Staten Island; three siblings Lynne Maltese of Long Branch, N.J., Alan Matthews of Middletown, N.J. and Joan Cataldi of Hazlet, N.J.; three grandchildren, Alma Gabriel Murphy, Sheena Elisa Rogers and Thomas Francis Murphy and three great-grandchildren, Phoenix Mosley, Shane Mosley and Aiden Pierson.

The family will receive visitors Tuesday, Sept. 23,  from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at DeFriest-Grattan Funeral Home in Mattituck. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 24, at 1o a.m. at the Episcopal Church of the Redeemer in Mattituck. Father Patrick McNamara will officiate.

Memorial donations may be made in Ms. Murphy’s name to Episcopal Church of the Redeemer.
