Southold Town Board members have a packed agenda for Tuesday morning’s public work session.

Board members are preparing to discuss a variety of town business, including a plan to replace the highway department’s aging fleet and ways to help facilitate the creation of more affordable apartments in Southold Town.

Highway Superintendent Vincent Orlando is expected to explain his new comprehensive capital plan Tuesday. The presentation comes five months after the Town Board told Mr. Orlando to establish a budget and schedule for equipment purchases before asking members for money to replace trucks unexpectedly.

Also on the agenda, planning department director Heather Lanza, along with special projects coordinator Philip Beltz, are expected to hold a preliminary discussion on the creation of more affordable apartment units in town. Earlier this year, the town’s Affordable Housing Commission requested more leadership from town officials to address the issue.

The board is also expected to appoint five people to a newly created civic committee aimed at combating helicopter noise. The appointments are being made to get the committee’s work started, Supervisor Scott Russell said. Eventually, it will become an independent committee that could potentially hold its own elections to choose officials, he said.

The meeting starts at 9 a.m. at Southold Town Hall. The formal Town Board meeting will follow at 4:30p.m. The full agenda is below.
