You’ve likely driven past legendary scientist Nikola Tesla’s lab in Shoreham many times in the past.

And it’s even more likely you’ve never set foot on the lab’s grounds.

You can change all that from 1 to 4 p.m. Oct. 25.

The laboratory, which is being rebuilt into a museum, learning center and business incubator, will open to the public for those three hours that afternoon, when a group of up to 30 Tesla car owners from the mid-Atlantic region are expected to visit and volunteer in cleanup efforts.

Event organizers have billed it as the first time the public has ever been allowed to tour the historic lab’s grounds located off Route 25A at the end of Tesla Street.

Visitors will be invited to view the historic Stanford White brick laboratory up close and learn about the goals of the Tesla Science Center at Wardenclyffe through videos and short talks by members of the board of directors.

“We will show you what Tesla did a century ago and how it affects our lives every day,” Tesla Science Center president Jane Alcorn said in a press release. “Our board will be on hand to explain the future plans for Wardenclyffe, and describe how the public can get involved.”

There will also be a meet and greet with the owners of the Tesla electric cars.

“My car is a pure delight and we go everywhere in it,” said event organizer Jim Thompson. “I believe this is the future.”
