Florence La Riviere

Florence “Dolly” La Riviere of Southold died Oct. 16, at San Simeon by the Sound in Greenport. She was 86. 

She was born June 1, 1928, in Greenport to Margaret (Dingle) and Harry Mitchell. She graduated from Greenport High School, Virginia Intermont College, and attended Barbizon Studio of Fashion Modeling. Ms. La Riviere married Raymond La Riviere, July 12, 1954.

She grew up in the restaurant business, first working for her father at his legendary restaurant, Mitchell’s in Greenport. Then she continued working alongside her husband and other family members at various eateries such as Porky’s, the Seafarer and Mitchell’s. She and her husband were part owners of Mitchell’s Restaurant and Marina in Greenport and for some time Raymonds in Southold. Her last position was at the North Fork Country Club in Cutchogue.

Family members said she had a mischievous sense of humor, enjoyed her pets, reading, yard sales, clamming, bike riding, bird watching, fishing on the Boston Whaler, and a good game of knock rummy with her husband.

Ms. La Riviere is survived by her children, Patricia La Riviere-Hom of Southold and Remi of Las Vegas, Nev. She was predeceased by her husband; and siblings, Harry, Arnold, Robert, Richard Mitchell, and Trudy Pounds.

A private interment will be at Calverton National Cemetery. Arrangements were made at DeFriest-Grattan Funeral Home in Southold.
