Did you know there are only seven more Thursdays before Christmas? Now that I don’t work in retail, I’ve been tormenting my friends and daughter with the countdown. I have to say, I enjoy the change of season and the holidays. How about you?
Birthdays lead off. Halloween is a popular birthday: Jack Giovanniello, who turns 11, Laura Baxendale and Virginia Gilmore celebrate that day. Sarah Reilly blows out candles Nov. 2 and Angela Tondo on Nov. 5.
Belated happy anniversary wishes to Dr. and Mrs. Ron Yedloutschnig, who celebrated 58 years of marriage Oct. 26. Kate and Adam Panetta celebrate their 18th anniversary on Nov. 9.
The Southold Chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution celebrated its 40th anniversary on Oct. 18 during a luncheon at Soundview Restaurant in Greenport. A lovely meal was enjoyed by 23 members and guests. Lunch was followed by the installation of two new members; the presentation of certificates of achievement by Ann Otten, state director for districts X and XI; and the cutting of a cake by member Marjorie Bunyan, who was celebrating her 90th birthday and her 68th year as a DAR member.
A correction on PTA news: Vendors are still needed for the Jump Start the Holidays Gift Fair on Saturday, Nov. 15. Contact Liz at [email protected].
Mark your calendar for Saturday, Nov. 15, when First Presbyterian Church of Southold will host a chinese auction and bake sale. Viewing and bidding run from noon until 2 p.m. and drawings start at 2:15. Over 100 gorgeous baskets will be available. Fresh baked goods, as well as unbaked frozen apple, pecan and pumpkin pies are $15 each. Call Karen Danzer at 765-1530 to pre-order pies. Free cider and cookies will be served. This event benefits Youth Mission trips, Mission to Heal and Local and International.
Shirley Bratle won the “It’s a Dog’s Life” raffle, which featured a collar and leash created and donated by Martha Jones, plus three doggie tins from the Friends and the book “The Divinity of Dogs.” The current raffle is a throw pillow with a colorful baseball cards theme crafted and donated by Linda Wenczel. The Friends have added a 2014 National Baseball Hall of Fame Almanac and two Pez dispensers with baseball logos. Chances are $1 each and all proceeds directly benefit the library. The drawing will be held Saturday, Nov. 15. Watch your mailbox for the library’s November/December newsletter.
The Southold Historical Society will host a Harvest Dinner Thursday, Nov. 13, from noon to 8 p.m. at the Soundview Restaurant. The menu is a choice of pot roast or salmon for $25 per person, including tip. Takeout will be available. There will also be a 50/50 cash raffle. For ticket locations, call 765-5500.
The air is crisp. The weekend tourists are plentiful. Take time to appreciate the good things, the little things. My deadline is Nov. 9. See you then!
