Bertha Wysocki Vaughan

Former Orient resident Bertha Wysocki Vaughan died Oct. 16, 2014 in Huntsville, Texas. 

She was born in Jersey City, N.J. and moved to Orient at a young age with her parents Veronika and William Wysocki, Sr. Ms. Vaughan graduated from Greenport High School in 1934 and moved to New York City and attended New York University to become a dietitian.

Bertha and Hunter Vaughan were married at Orient Congregational Church May 4, 1957. After living many years in New York City they moved to Houston, Texas, and upon retirement moved to Huntsville. Family members said Ms. Vaughan was an avid golfer, loved working in the flower garden, traveling and entertaining friends.

Ms. Vaughan is predeceased by her husband of 47 years; three sisters, Sophie Osborn, Helen Cameron and Anne Moon; and  two brothers, John and Benjamin Wysocki. She is survived by two sisters, Elizabeth Busso of East Marion and Stephanie Maxwell of Neshanic Station, N.J.; and two brothers, William Wysocki Jr. of Orient and Thomas Wysocki of Salem, N.J. along with several nieces, a nephew and good friends.

Funeral services were held Oct. 21, and she was laid to rest alongside her husband at the Sam Houston Memorial Cemetery in Huntsville.
