Irene Tirelli

Irene (Garzilli) Tirelli passed away peacefully on October 11, 2014 in West Nyack, N.Y. at the age of 102.  

Born in New York City Nov. 30, 1912, to Vincenza and Vincenzo, her family moved back to Italy shortly after her birth. She returned to the United States at the age of 16, where she married her beloved Michael Tirelli, who predeceased her in 1985.

She was predeceased by siblings, Anna, Nunzio and Michael; her son Anthony and daughter-in-law Viola. She is survived by daughter, Marie and her husband, Bruce of West Nyack, her son Vincent and his wife, Louise of Southold and son Angelo and his wife, Ann of Huntington, NY.

She leaves behind 10 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and six great-great grandchildren as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins in both the United State and Italy. Irene was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, cousin and friend who loved nothing more than being surrounded by family.

Visiting hours were held Oct. 14 at Joseph W. Sorce Funeral Home in West Nyack. A Catholic church service was held on Oct. 15 at Saint Anthony’s Church in West Nyack. She was laid to rest alongside her husband Michael at Raymond’s Cemetery in the Bronx.
