Mattituck News: Donate toys this holiday season at Wendy’s Deli

It’s always so exciting when our kids are involved in high-stakes sports games instead of high-stakes testing, so there has been lots of celebrating this past week to applaud our athletes. Congratulations to the girls’ volleyball team for giving it their all in their attempt at a state championship win. The crowd’s roar indicates how proud we are. And what can be said about the boys’ soccer team that hasn’t already been written? Their state championship win shows that passion and determination are the tools needed to succeed. You have represented Mattituck well and we are so proud!

Our school also celebrates student champions with a breakfast compliments of the PTSA. Receiving October “Student of the Month” accolades from each department were Rebecca Foster, Amanda Young, Adrianna Lawson, Jose Chamale-Puluc, George McDowell, Matthew Warns, Taylor Larsen, Mackenzie Daly, Jennie Fruin and Larysa Andreadis. Congratulations to all!

Lenny Llewellyn wanted to celebrate his brother Doug’s success by sharing the following news. Doug teaches part-time at St. John Fisher College in Rochester and writes professional development books for K-12 science teachers. With all the emphasis on STEM programs in schools today, it was no surprise that an article about Doug’s work appeared in a publication from SUNY/Delhi.

Church of the Redeemer invites you to bring friends and family Sunday, Nov. 23, at 4 p.m. to join in celebrating Thanksgiving with song and praise. After the service, the church will host a wine and cheese gathering. Any questions, call 298-4277 or email [email protected].

Looking for some family entertainment? Tonight, Nov. 20, and tomorrow, Nov. 21, at 7 p.m. in the Mattituck High School auditorium, the Junior High Players will perform “Forgiven: A Fairy Tale.” The cost of admission is a nonperishable food item or $7 per adult and $5 for seniors/students. The high school’s Community Service Organization joins the performers by collecting the food and donating it to a local food pantry. Come and reacquaint yourself with characters like Hansel and Gretel, Rapunzel, Cinderella, Snow White and many more.

Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday, with the chance to fill the house with the aroma of the season and prepare the table for family to gather and count our blessings. In our day-to-day lives, we often forget how very blessed we are. May you and yours all enjoy a moment this day to give thanks and share your bounty with others. Happy Thanksgiving!
