Cutchogue News: Christmas Show House kicks off Nov. 28
Temperatures have dropped, daytime light has diminished and the leaves have turned red, orange and yellow and then fallen — evoking sensory images of a beautiful autumn.
The North Fork Christmas Show House and Holiday Emporium kicks off Friday, Nov. 28, at the Cutchogue Presbyterian Church manse and runs each Friday to Sunday through Dec. 14 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. The building will be full of holiday splendor and filled with vendors from the North Fork to make this a one-stop shopping experience. Admission is $10. Proceeds to benefit the Wounded Warrior Project and local families in need.
Old Town Arts & Crafts Guild on Main Road in Cutchogue will host a holiday sale and open house Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 6 and 7, featuring original artworks and gifts handcrafted by local artists and crafters. You’ll surely find something for everyone on your list! Hours are Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday, noon to 5 p.m. Visit oldtownartsguild.org or call 734-6382.
On your mark, get set, go for the ninth annual Thanksgiving Day Turkey Trot 5K Run/Walk. Race day registration is from 7:45 to 8:45 a.m. at Mattituck High School. Proceeds go to Sloan Kettering, a senior scholarship honoring Kaitlyn Doorhy and the MCTA Senior Scholarship Fund.
Speaking of exercise, Cutchogue Fire Department’s third annual “Stuff the Sleigh” 5K run and children’s fun run are set for Sunday, Dec. 14, 10 a.m. to noon. In addition to the entry fee adult runners are asked to bring a new unwrapped toy for donation to CAST and kids’ fun runners are asked to contribute two nonperishable food items.
Congratulations to Nick Bieber, a junior at SUNY/Maritime College who was added to the dean’s list for the spring semester.
Wreath time! The annual Cutchogue Fire Department Christmas tree and wreath sale runs from Nov. 29 through Christmas across the street from the firehouse.
Boy Scout Troop 39 will be selling holiday greenery at Karen’s Deli and the post office Nov. 29 and 30 and Dec. 6 and 7.
Activities at Cutchogue New Suffolk library include “Tots, Toys & Tales” for children up to 36 months at 9:30 a.m. and “Wrappings from the Heart” story time for ages 6 and 7 at 4:15 p.m. -— both on Tuesday, Dec. 2. To register, call 734-6360.
For many, Thanksgiving evokes the aroma of a roasting turkey, the taste of a savory pumpkin pie, the sounds of laughter and excitement and feelings of love and happiness. For others, however, lack of food and the absence of family and fun make this and the month ahead a time of sadness and difficulty. We are a community of goodness, where neighbors help neighbors and civic and religious organizations offer opportunities for us to serve and be served by one another on many levels. As we embark on the holiday season, I am grateful for this.
