Cops: Mattituck man was driving drunk in the shoulder

A Mattituck man was arrested Sunday on a drunken driving charge after he was observed crossing over the white line and driving in the shoulder along Route 25 near Cardinal Drive in Mattituck, Southold Town police said.

Michael Kline, 24, was stopped shortly before 2 a.m. after he failed to maintain his lane, police said. He was charged with DWI after he was found to have “bloodshot and glassy eyes, slurred speech and the smell of an alcoholic beverage on his breath,” officials said.

Mr. Kline was transported to police headquarters and is being held for an arraignment at Southold Town Justice Court.
