Dana S. Niewadomski

Former Riverhead resident Dana S. Niewadomski of Alabama died Aug. 19. He was 62.  

Mr. Niewadomski was born July 4, 1952, in Bay Shore to Charles and Virginia (Furlong) Niewadomski. He graduated from Riverhead High School in 1970. He married Margaret Lindsey Jan. 9, 1971, in Riverhead.

While living in Riverhead, Mr. Niewadomski worked for Central Suffolk Hospital (now Peconic Bay Medical Center) as a dietary supervisor. After moving to Alabama, he was the director of campus dining at the University of West Alabama. He was a past member of Riverhead Fire Department.

An alumnus of the Culinary Institute of America, family members said Mr. Niewadomski was a wine connoisseur who enjoyed cooking. He also loved traveling and spending time with family.

Predeceased by his parents and brothers Donald Packham and Charles Niewadomski Jr.; Mr. Niewadomski is survived by his wife, Margaret “Peggy;” his children, Lindsey Niewadomski (Jason Copenhaver Sr.), Charles J. (Melody) Niewadomski; grandchildren, Jared, Jason Jr., Ryan and Ryleigh Copenhaver; and James and Sabrina Niewadomski; brothers and sister, Joseph (Kerry) Niewadomski of California, John, of Riverhead and Susan, of  Kentucky; his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Tom and Barbara Shalvey of Cutchogue, Sally and Paul Kettrick of South Carolina, and Theo and Derwin Fairres of Alabama; his aunt, Lottie Adams and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial visitation will be held Saturday, Dec. 6, at 11 a.m. at McLaughlin Heppner Funeral Home in Riverhead. Cremation was private.
