Ethel S. Grigonis

Ethel S. Grigonis of Southold died at her home Dec. 1, 2014.  She was 87. 

She was born Sept. 18, 1927, in Patchogue, to Hazel (née Trenholm) and William Hamner and was a graduate of Greenport High School.

Formerly of Patchogue and Greenport, Ms. Grigonis had been an executive secretary to the Southold Town Highway Department superintendent.

She was a communicant of St. Agnes R.C Church in Greenport and St. Patrick’s R.C. Church in Southold. Ms. Grigonis was also a member of the Eastern Long Island Quilters Guild and coordinated the Hats from the Heart program, which provided knitted hats for chemotherapy patients.

She is survived by her children, Donna Paolantonio of Denver, Colo., and Glenn Paolantonio of Forest Hills; and her cousin, William DeVito of Patchogue.

The family received visitors Dec. 4 at DeFriest-Grattan Funeral Home in Southold. The Liturgy of Christian Burial was celebrated Dec. 5 at St. Agnes R.C. Church in Greenport. Interment was at the church cemetery.
