Ronald Robert Jacobs of Greenport died Jan. 8 at San Simeon by the Sound in Greenport. He was 79.

He was born Dec. 31, 1935, at Eastern Long Island Hospital in Greenport to Jullia (Pilles) Foster and Raymond Jacobs.

Mr. Jacobs attended high school and served in the U.S. Army for two years, achieving the rank of private first class. He was self-employed as a bayman.

Family members said he enjoyed duck hunting and fishing. While living at San Simeon, he enjoyed bingo, horse races and Men’s Club; and won several medals for the Golden Games.

Predeceased by his brother, Frederick; he is survived by his sister, Delores Dow of Southold; his brother, Raymond, of East Marion; two nieces; two nephews; three great-grand nieces; one great-grand nephew; and one great-great-grand niece.

The family received visitors Jan. 13 at Horton-Mathie Funeral Home in Greenport. A funeral service was held  Jan. 14 at 10 a.m. at the funeral home, officiated by Deacon Austin Stack. Interment, with U.S. Army Honor Guard took place at Sterling Cemetery in Greenport.
