Cutchogue News: Library seeking photo submissions

Celebrating 100 years in the community! A picture is worth a thousand words and Cutchogue New Suffolk Library is looking for past and present photographs of you. Pictures can be in the library, working on a farm, at the beach, sailing or any place in Cutchogue or New Suffolk. The hope is to collect 100 photographs portraying the history of our district. Help tell our story. Bring photos in an envelope clearly marked with your name, phone number, the name of the person(s) in the photograph and the approximate year taken. Photos will be returned. 

After taking the month of January off, the Cutchogue Homemakers are back and ready for action. Feb. 3 at 10 a.m.: Make valentines for veterans and bring your favorite cookie for the cookie exchange. Feb. 10, 10 a.m.: “Spread the love” by stuffing teddy bears to be given to young children through Eastern Long Island Hospital and Southold Police Department. Enjoy a delicious lunch Feb. 17, 11 a.m.: Celebrate Black History Month. Feb. 24, 11 a.m.: Bon appétit with Soup et al. For further information call Mary, 765-9243.

This month, the Mattituck High School DECA Club participated in the 2015 Regional competition at Suffolk County Community College. Congratulations to first-place winners Colleen Kelly and Charley Claudio for Public Speaking — Extemporaneous; Abby Terry, second place for Broadcast Advertising; Carly Doorhy, third place for Public Service Broadcast Advertising (TV Ad); and the 20 or so finalists. Approximately 20 students will travel to Rochester for the state competition March 3-6.

Congratulations, too, to the cast and crew of Cutchogue East Elementary School’s production of “Peter Pan Jr.” Bravo!

A night to remember: On Friday, Feb. 6, support the MHS boys and girls track program by enjoying a spaghetti dinner from 4 to 8 p.m. in the high school cafeteria. ‘Put on a happy face’ with the Mattituck Musical Theater Company’s production of “Bye Bye Birdie” Thursday through Saturday, Feb. 5 to 7. Curtain rises at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are available at the door. Adults, $10; children 12 and under, $5. Prior to Friday evening’s performance, at 6:30, there will be a naming ceremony for the James F. McKenna Auditorium.

Do you knit or crochet? You are invited to the third annual “Knit-In” on Sunday Feb. 8, from 1 to 3:30 p.m. at Fitness Advantage in Southold. Help make a difference in a woman’s life, meet new friends and enjoy some refreshments. Donations of red machine-washable, worsted-weight yarn would be greatly appreciated.
