Cops: Greenport man drove drunk, reportedly crossed into oncoming traffic

A 59-year-old Greenport man was arrested for drunk driving Friday morning on Route 48 in Mattituck, Southold Town police said.

Authorities said they received a phone call around 7:21 a.m. about a car being driven in an “erratic manner.” The caller told police the driver crossed into oncoming traffic several times and that he turned on his four-way flashers to warn other motorists.

Police said they located the vehicle and administered several sobriety tests to its driver, Charles A. Edwards. He failed them and was arrested, taken to police headquarters and held overnight pending arraignment, police said.
