Lifelong Greenport resident Jean MacCarter Zillo died at home Jan. 10. She was 91. 

She was born Jan. 19, 1923, in Greenport and married Gabriel Zillo on June 3, 1951, at St. Agnes R.C. Church in Greenport. The couple was married for 27 years.

For 40 years, Ms. Zillo worked as a clerk for Southold Pharmacy and Colonial Pharmacy in Greenport.

Ms. Zillo was a longtime volunteer at St. Agnes Church, spending five mornings a week at the church rectory and counting and depositing weekly collections. She dedicated her service to the church for 30 years. Family members described her as kind, gentle, quiet and unassuming. They also said Ms. Zillo was an avid cat lover who took care of feral cats and enjoyed the company of her beloved cat, Brownie. She also loved classical music and enjoyed knitting and reading nonfiction.

Ms. Zillo was predeceased by her husband in 1978.

A funeral service will take place at 10 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 15, at St. Agnes R.C. Church, officiated by the Rev. Richard Hoerning. Burial will follow at St. Agnes R.C. Cemetery.
